AH!medabad - Where there’s garba and dhokla!
After our thrilling journey ended in Maharashtra, we started heading towards Gujarat, The kingdom of Lord Krishna.
It wasn’t just like some random day. Completely filled with surprises, chasing a bus and indeed a lot of swearing on the roads, let’s see how this part of our journey was.
From Pune, we headed towards Ahmedabad.
Technically speaking, Rukmini, Krishna’s wife was kidnapped from Maharashtra and then taken to Gujarat.
That ways, we were also covering a part of Indian mythological history!
Well, little did we know what surprises awaited for us from Lord Krishna :D
Right after you land in the city, you can feel the humidity when it hits you.
Unimaginable sweating and scorching hot sun welcomed us in Gujarati style.
But oh wait! don’t get confused from the picture above. It is the same day in the evening when it rained for about just 15 mins and the whole city was drowned in this mini flood.
We started off by visiting “Adalaj Ni Vav”, a famous stepwell located in the outskirts of the city.
Known for its intricate architecture, the 5 storied stepwell was built in the 15th century by the then king of “Vaghela dynasty”.
The symmetry with which it was built can still be seen till date. Such architectural miracles make us think how precisely our ancestors must have dealt with each inch while constructing it.
Next on the list was the famous Sabarmati Ashram of Mahatma Gandhiji.
It was very peaceful and serene with most of the things preserved in their original state.
It was completely filled with paintings, letters and many other things depicting the life of Mahatma Gandhiji - Father of India.
Here are few more pictures taken from the ashram ..
After Visiting the Ashram, we spent some good time walking near the banks of river Sabarmati which flows right beside the Ashram.
It was really peaceful and also some little friends gave us a visit :P
After a tiresome day from running around in the sun, we were in search of some good food.
Well, welcome to the Diagon Alley of Ahmedabad people! The Manek Chowk!
It is believed that in the morning it is a jewelry market and after 8 in the evening, it turns into this never ending alley of food stalls. This was started by the local merchants/Gold smiths of the area so that there wont be anyone breaking into their jewelry mart after they end their shift.
Delicious and mouth watering food cooking everywhere. We can find all the cuisines you can imagine here. Italian, Gujarati, North Indian, South Indian, Continental, Sandwiches, Fruit shots, Dessertssssss Oh my gawdddd!! and the list is never ending.
PS : People who don’t like sweet in their food (Savoury), this is going to be a nightmare for you in Ahmedabad!! Coz Gujjus add sugar in every possible dish! :D
Due to time constraint, we missed out on few other places we had on our list to visit.
Here’s a list which might be useful incase someone is planning to visit Ahmedabad.
